"Just Joking" is a new animated web series that transforms Josiah James' live standup material into an animated cartoon. Each episode will feature a one to two minute bit that gets deconstructed and brought to life in the form of colorful pixels moving across the screen. The advantage of animating a joke is the possibilities are endless, and the limitations are that it's very time consuming and expensive to produce.
As such, there may be long periods of time between each episode. But know that each episode is hand drawn by one person, so it takes a lot of time and attention to detail to finish even a one minute segment.
The initial episode has taken over 3 years to ship. This is from original concepts, to storyboards, to animatics to rough prototypes all the way to finished product. We will be blogging a bit about the process for those that are interested. The entire 3 years wasn't spent slaving away on one episode. There were plenty of breaks in between. We lost momentum either due to lack of funding or lack of time. So eventually, at the end of the day, we had been discussing and working on this project for over 3 years.
We are very excited to share it all with you and hope you enjoy the first segment. Luckily, a lot of the characters and set design can be reused and re-purposed for future episodes. Hopefully this means you won't have to wait another 3 years for episode 2. (not that anyone was waiting for episode 1).
